Exploring boundaries

As a people-pleaser, I've often struggled with setting personal boundaries.  I have no doubt this was partly to blame for my two failed marriages and some of my parenting challenges.  The good news is that we can all learn to set boundaries and still be nice.

So, what exactly is a boundary?

The dictionary defines boundary as...

"Something that indicates the farthest limit;
as of an area, border"

When we talk about a person having boundaries, we refer to a person's limit as to what they find acceptable or comfortable.

Did you ever feel that sick, anxious feeling when someone asked you do something you really didn't want to do?  Perhaps it was even illegal or harmful to you or others?

Think of that feeling as a warning sign.

Then ask yourself:

  • Am I uncomfortable with this?
  • Does this violate my values and/or beliefs?
  • Does this go against my own true nature and what actions I would take in my best interest or those I love?

If you answer yes to any of the above then....

SET A BOUNDARY!
